About Me
Well to start off, I am 30 years old and I am living in beautiful Raleigh, North Carolina with my lovely wife Jen. We got married back on Halloween of 2003 and have been in Raleigh ever since. I am currently working in the Technology Support Specialist for North Carolina State University.
North Carolina is a huge change from New Hampshire. First, there aren't feet of snow on the ground for months and months during the winter. I have really only seen a few flakes since moving here and a little ice that shut the city down. There are also a ton of parks and lakes with walking greenways around Raleigh, which is someting I never saw in Manchester. We live near Umstead State Park which is only a minute away and the pups love to go on hikes.
Although I go by Matt, my real name is David. My parents decided to call me by my middle name for some odd reason. My father and grandfather are both David, and my sister's husband and her father-in-law are also Davids. On top of that, my sister gave my new nephew the name David and he goes by his middle name, Tucker! I am originally from Huntington, WV and back in 2000, I graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College with a B. S. in Biology. It was during college that I met my wife Jen and moved to Manchester, New Hampshire for a few years.
After a short while working in the Biology field weighing and drying dirt for a living, I decided to change my field of work and go into computer science. Computer science always was an interest to me, and while getting stuck in charge of the network and server for my fraternity my interests of networking and computers was sparked. So while in NH, I went back to school, studied networking and administration, and started working towards Cisco certifications and eventually became a Cisco Certified Network Professional.
My fraternity pledge brother/ college roommate / great friend, Kevin, convinced me to come down to North Carolina and give it a shot. He lives in Raleigh where Cisco has a nearby campus, so it sounded great. It really sucked being away from Jen, but everything worked out in the end. I ended up getting a job at a nearby high school had to polish up on Novell NetWare, which is something that I never thought I would have to do again. Work is going great and everyone is really nice.
I loved working at my high schools, but it was time for a change and an oppertunity came up to work at NC State University doing similar work, but I would get to use some of my knowledge of Unix and Linux, php and databases, and get to work with varied systems.
